The solution

Real size. Real response. No hot-spot.

Most e-kits ship with an 8″ or 10″ pad — too small for proper rimshots or stick work. Add a centre-cone trigger and you get harsh hot-spotting whenever you hit the middle of the head. The Custom A2E fixes both: an authentic 14″ × 5.9″ shell with acoustic look and feel, chrome tension hoops, a bottom reso mesh, and a premium 4-point trigger that senses evenly across the head — so your technique stays natural and your dynamics stay linear.

True Dual-Zone Response

Full dual-zone triggering for head and rim. Rimshots, cross-sticks and snare mapping work through a standard TRS input — no special cable or proprietary pad required.

Full dual-zone triggering for head and rim. Rimshots, cross-sticks and snare mapping work through a standard TRS input — no special cable or proprietary pad required.

A premium 3-ply white mesh head. It keeps a natural acoustic look and stick feel, without the trampoline bounce you get from cheap single-ply pads.

Mounted in a laser-cut hardened steel chassis for rigidity. Four flat-top foam cylinders on a multi-spoke frame sense evenly across the head, so you get linear dynamics without a centre hot-spot.

Integrated 1/4″ TRS (stereo) stainless steel jack. No soldering, no drilling — plug into your module's snare input and go.

The first thing I noticed was the ghost notes. On my old 10" pad they either vanished or triggered at full volume — there was no in-between. This tracks every one of them.

Dropped it into the kit on a Friday and gigged it on the Saturday. No calibration, no fiddling with thresholds. It just behaved like a snare.
Just works like a snare

I bought this to upgrade my TD-30 KV kit - its a significant improvement compared to the previous Roland snare! Highly recommended!
Nice upgrade

It feels just right. I replaced the PDX-12 on my TD-17 with this (the old pad became the floor tom). It is a joy to play.

Questions

Questions worth asking before you buy.

If your module has a 1/4" TRS snare input — which covers virtually every Roland TD, Alesis, Yamaha DTX, Millenium and 2Box module — yes. Plug into the snare input and select a dual-zone mesh pad as the trigger type. Our compatibility guide lists the recommended setting for each popular module.

No — that is the point of the design. The snare presents itself as a standard dual-zone mesh pad over a normal TRS cable, so it works with the module you already own. You get a true 14″ mesh feel without the digital-pad path that usually means a flagship module and roughly $1,500+ NZD all-in. Nothing proprietary, nothing else to buy.

Hot-spotting is the volume spike you get when you hit directly over a single centre-mounted cone. The Jobeky 4-point trigger spreads sensing across four flat-top foam cylinders on a steel spoke chassis, so the head responds evenly from centre to edge. Rimshots and ghost notes land where you expect them.

Acoustic volume is comparable to any 14" mesh-head pad — quieter than a rubber pad of the same size, and far quieter than an acoustic snare with a batter head. The shell is a real drum shell, so it has more body than a small pad, but it stays well inside home-practice levels.

Yes. It uses standard lugs and a standard drum key. Tuning the mesh head changes stick feel and rebound the same way it would on an acoustic drum; it does not change how the trigger reads velocity, so you can set the feel you want without recalibrating.

Neither is included. It mounts in any standard snare basket and connects with any standard 1/4" TRS (stereo) cable — the one already running to your current snare pad will do. We left both out rather than charge you for hardware you already own.

Each snare is built and calibrated to order in our Christchurch workshop, which takes 5–10 working days. Shipping within New Zealand is free and tracked, and typically arrives one to three working days after dispatch.

You have 14 days from delivery to return it for a refund, provided it comes back in original condition. The snare also carries a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, and your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act apply on top of that.
